Methodology and sources
SwimTimeCalculator.com is designed to make its assumptions visible. This page documents what the converter supports, how results are produced, and where estimates should not be used.
Supported inputs
| Field | Supported values |
|---|---|
| Courses | SCY, SCM, LCM |
| Strokes | Freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, individual medley |
| Events | 50, 100, 200; 400/500; 800/1000; 1500/1650 |
| Time format | ss.hh, mm:ss.hh, hh:mm:ss.hh |
Classical method
The baseline model uses publicly documented 1.11-style short-event factors, separate 400/500, 800/1000, and 1500/1650 pairings, and a stroke-sensitive short-course turn adjustment for events through 200.
Wall-adjusted method
The experimental alternative estimates time between walls, calculates a per-meter pace, maps the physical target distance, and applies the target pool’s wall count. It is intentionally labeled as an estimate.

- Course conversion research discussing individual turn and underwater differences
- Google Search technical documentation used for site implementation
Limitations
- Results are not official, sanctioned, or guaranteed.
- The model does not know an athlete’s start, turn, underwater, or fatigue profile.
- Relay starts, altitude, pool geometry, and timing-system differences are not modeled.
- Governing bodies and meets may use their own conversion rules.
